Among the many scuba diving attractions in Little Bahama Bank of the Caribbean Sea, scuba diving with sharks is one of the favorite underwater activities for scuba divers there.

Bahamas’ Bull Pit Shark Dive
This is a classic shark diving destination and having been scuba dived so frequently for many years. It is because of this factor that the sharks there can now associate the sound of boat engines with food. Hey, it is always lunch time whenever boats are approaching.

These awesome sea predators will move very quickly into the area once they sense that the dive boats are coming. Since this strange and unnatural shark behavior that is being cultivated by human activities is not a natural characteristic of sharks hunting for food has been criticized by marine conservationists.

The Bull Pit is made up of a series of low lying reefs and canyons that create a maze of interesting channels and gullies for scuba divers to explore. One favorite method of shark watching by scuba divers is to wait in one of these gullies and wait for the sharks to come near. The sharks of course are aware that the scuba divers are around and will sometimes swim up close to inspect the intruders and to check for food handouts.

Although The Bull Pit dive site is considered a safe diving location, inexperienced divers may be frightened to find themselves in such close proximity with these fierce meat eating predators. All novice and inexperienced scuba divers should therefore dive under the close supervision of experienced divers so that they would not panic and do things that may attract the sharks to think of them as food.

Bahamas Shark Rodeo
This famous shark rodeo in Little Bahama Bank is a flat patch of sand the size of a football field at Walker’s Cay. Dive boats will usually circle the site first, gunning the boat’s engines to attract the sharks.

Upon entering the water, scuba divers will settle on the sandy seabed in sight of a ‘chumsicle’ which is a large frozen mass of fish contained in a porous cylinder. The good thing about this shark feeding system is that it avoids pieces of fish remains floating near watching scuba divers so as to prevent shark attacking scuba divers by accident.

The feeding sharks, often more than a hundred of them from several shark species will suddenly zoom in to the chumsicle in a feeding frenzy. This is when the show begins. Divers are warned to keep very still when some of the sharks may glide over to check out who is eyeing their meals or worse, eating the scuba divers as their meal.

So if you plan for a scuba diving trip to the Bahamas, do dive with the sharks.

The country have no big land mass, but instead is made up of about 1200 coral islands with a total area of 104,00.00 sq kilo 99% of which is the sea. Of these islands, only slightly more than 200 of them are inhabited. Most of the islands are not higher than six feet(about 2 meters) above sea level and scientists have warned that they are very susceptible to global warming and may one day, disappear into the ocean. There are already signs that this is happening.

Needless to say, the mainstay of the Maldivian economy is powered by the fishing and tourism industries. About 500,000 tourists arrive on these islands annually. The capital of Maldives is Male (pronounced as Ma-leh). Upon touching down at the airport, you willbe whisked away by a fishing boat because the capital is no larger than a few football fields and have one of the most dense population in the world.

Maldives has been an independent sovereign country except for a brief occupation by the Portuguese. It then became a British Protectorate in the mid-fifties and gained full independence in 965. It has been an Islamic country for more than 800 years.
During the Ming Dynasty, Chinese sailors called Maldives the “submerged mountain chain” wrote commentaries about these islands.

If you enjoy vacations in tranquil tropical islands or simply love fishing and diving, then Maldives will be a great holiday destination for you. Oh, I forgot to mention, if you are a seafood lover, I think there are no other places on Earth where you can get such a wide smorgasbord delicious mouth watering seafood, except in Maldives.

when scuba diving because you have limited amount of air, how is the air inhaled in regards to the rate of breathing? is it done at a rate which is normal to that of being out of water like everyday breathing? or do you have to control your breathing and hold your breaths before inhaling again? does a person who is scared of water or deep seas use more air than a normal diver? lastly what is a rebreather is this different to scuba tank air? and if it is which method gives more time underwater?

I bought a scuba tank for airgun filling purposes. Will not be used as a breathing aparatus. If it just needs some sort of anti-sieze and a proper torqueing, I can do that. Since the tank will be empty they may want to do a VIP anyway correct? Therefore should install the valve for me.

Deep sea fishing in Kenya

Kenya’s coastal waters are gentle and warm fanned with mild monsoon winds, conditions that attract many varieties of fish, including Big Game Fish. The seas around Mombasa, Kenya’s major port, are considered one of the prime fishing grounds in the world, where fishermen of all classes, beginners to lifelong experts, can catch marlin, sailfish and shark, as well as Wahoo, dorado, barracuda, kingfish and other game fish. The proximity to the open sea means they are closer to the fishing grounds, so mid season (August to December) they fish near the reef for a minimum of five hours. When the northeast monsoon wind is blowing from December to April, the boats go further out and fish longer hours to pursue the great billfish. August to November provides really good sport for the big Yellow fin Tuna and the many smaller game fish. In among the Yellow fin Tuna are often found big Blue Marlin and a number of Striped and Black Marlin as well as Sailfish. The Yellow fin Tuna is one of the strongest fish that swim. During this season multiple hook ups are normal when the ocean can come alive with huge schools of Tuna in pursuit of smaller fish. During the bill fish season, which is from November to March, Striped Marlin are the most prolific, sometimes showing in packs of up to ten. Large Blue and Black Marlin are also quite common during this period.

Deep sea diving

Kenya boasts three beautiful marine parks with crystal waters, ideal for snorkeling and scuba diving. Most African Kenya coastal hotels have equipment for hire and offer reef trips in glass bottomed boats. Visibility is best in dry seasons - January to March and June to October and most the diving is drift diving. You need to be trained in order to dive, and you may be required to take a test. Take along your certificate. There are several companies offering recognized coursing and diving equipment for hire.
